Join us this Thursday at 6 PM CST for our next Thrive meet-up. We’re a group of education-adjacent folks who are getting together every week for inspiration. Our hope is to survive, resist, and thrive in these challenging times.
Our topic this week will be activism. I’ve invited my former neighbor, Dennis, to chat about his approach to impacting his Chicago neighborhood. Dennis is also an educator. Along with his partner, he has been a force in the Irving Park neighborhood. They organize neighborhood clean-ups, find work for recently migrating families, host coffees for local politicians, and arrange a communal Dia De Los Muertos celebration with neighbors. Dennis and Bernando showed us how to be good neighbors and citizens many moons ago. Here they are pictured with our former alderman at the re-opening of a playground near our houses back in the day.
When I think of activism, too, I also think of
. I first met Lisa when our sons were in preschool together. She is also an educator and moved to Ohio several years ago, where she is leading the charge for change as a founder of Honesty for Ohio Education. We invited her to speak to our Actionable Innovations Conversations group a few years ago, and I thought I’d post the recording here for inspiration.https://youtube.com/live/j_ACHrTfve8
Lisa, Dennis, and Bernardo are exemplary activists and I’ve learned much from them. Who are your activist heroes? Join us Thursday for a discussion on this topic. Register here to attend.
What an honor, Lucy, to be mentioned here. I'm so grateful for the ways you connect folks, issues, and ideas, across lines of difference AND across the world!
